Who we are
The Sundamentals Project (“Sundamentals”, “we”) runs sundamentals.ca, a free clean-energy education resource for Canadians. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.
What we collect
- Contact details you give us — name, email, phone number — when you request an evaluation or consultation, sign up for updates, sign a petition or request a course certificate.
- Home details you choose to share, such as your address or postal code, roof or heating type, and approximate energy bills, so a request can be assessed.
- Information from Facebook and Instagram lead forms you submit to us, which Meta passes to us with your consent.
- Course progress, stored in your own browser, and your name and email if you request a certificate.
- Basic technical data such as pages visited and device type, used to keep the site working and improve it.
How we use it
- To respond to your request — for example, to arrange the free evaluation you asked for.
- To send certificates, petition updates or newsletters you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To improve our content and tools.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
- Local partner installers. When you request a solar (or other) evaluation, quote or consultation, we share the details you provided with a vetted local partner so they can contact you about that request. By submitting the request you consent to this sharing.
- Service providers that run our site and email on our behalf — for example hosting (Vercel), database (Supabase), email delivery (SendGrid) and maps (Google). They may only use your information to provide those services.
- Where required by law.
Some service providers store data outside Canada, where it may be accessible under local laws.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose you gave it for, or as required by law, then delete or anonymize it.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, withdraw consent to future contact, or unsubscribe from emails using the link in any message. Withdrawing consent won't affect information already shared with a partner for a request you made, but we'll tell them you no longer wish to be contacted.
Cookies
Our site uses minimal browser storage for things like course progress and remembered preferences. Embedded content such as YouTube videos and maps may set their own cookies under their providers' policies.
